Spectacular post on the journey of teaching

“Did I ever tell you the one about when I kept a whole class of 7th graders engaged for an hour?”

This beautiful and moving post, by a friend of Sarah Miller’s, principal of Phoenix Charter Academy, describes the promise, pain, and vulnerability of the first years of teaching.

It’s so hard and so important; the trials are immense; you keep going.  You’re always a good teaching and a bad teacher, sometimes at the same time.

Check out the whole post.

  1. Hi I’m the author of the “teacher story” post and I want to thank you so much for featuring my work here and for your very kind words! It is so moving to me when my personal work seems to resonate with others.

I’m excited to check out the rest of your blog!

(P.S. I’m not sure who Sarah Miller is, though…?)

  2. Hi Drawmedy, It’s great that you’re here, and your post has drawn interest and praise. I’d like to use it when I am talking with young teachers! Sarah Miller is a young principal of Phoenix Charter Academy, a school in Chelsea Massachusetts that serves overage and undercredited youth, many of whom are young parents and “untraditional” students in some other way. Check out the link above. Many of the teachers there are in their first five years, and have been moved by your words and reflections.

    Kirsten
